Grape Vines Nelson New Zealand

Young grafted Pinot Gris vine

Schwarzmann Rootstock in late summer
We have an excellent understanding of the unique challenges viticulture presents and strive to offer vines of the highest possible quality. Our vines pass a set of quality control standards as set down by the industry. All rootstocks are grown by Dean's Nursery on the free draining soil of the Waimea plains.
Virus Tested Roostocks
All our rootstocks are Elisa tested for grapevine leaf roll virus 1 and 3. Newer plantings are being established of PCR tested roostocks which tests for many more viruses that cannot be detected using Elisa alone. Budwood is sourced from virus tested blocks or purchased from the grapevine improvement group (GVIG) during winter and held in coolstore until grafting.
Quality, New Zealand Grapevines
Vines are grafted in September and October then callused before being planted out in November and December. The following winter the vines are ready for lifting, grading and despatching.
